They’re shutting down the Dept of Education
bookshelves of books!
The oligarchs, aka the upper class, want a society where the masses are uneducated and will become workers for their companies. They want us all stupid so they can get away with whatever they want without us noticing. They want to keep us poor too for the same reason. If we’re fighting each other for resources like food and water, we don’t have time to rebel. To that I say, go get your education as a form of resistance!
I gave you my thoughts in a previous post about what I’d do with education in this country. This West Wing quote from character Sam Seaborn sums it up best. He said,
“Education is the silver bullet. Education is everything. We don't need little changes, we need gigantic, monumental changes. Schools should be palaces. The competition for the best teachers should be fierce. They should be making six-figure salaries. Schools should be incredibly expensive for government and absolutely free of charge to its citizens, just like national defense. That's my position. I just haven't figured out how to do it yet (imdb.com).”
You may wonder what the federal Department of Education’s functions actually are and think it’s okay to leave it all to the states. And that is where you might want to reconsider. The Department of Education’s main function is to oversee the education of our country’s youth from pre-Kindergarten to post-graduate school. From Special Education to the FAFSA form for the college-bound to Vocational Rehabilitation, the department handles a variety of programs and grants. Look, they’re not perfect but they don’t need to be closed down completely!
Trump is planning to sign an executive action today calling on his Cabinet Secretary Linda McMahon to close down the department and return the authority to the states. Of this she says they want to “empower states and districts to have more say in what is working on the ground for students instead of bureaucratic edicts from Washington, D.C.” which I read on the Department of Education website’s news section. That sounds nice and all until you consider that property taxes in each locality determine how adequate a child’s school is, and that it is deeply unfair.
We tell our teachers to teach to the standardized tests, and to not teach history accurately. Why do they want to do such a disservice to our nation’s children? For example, I just heard today from CNN that Oklahoma wants to tell its students that the 2020 Election results are false and that there were discrepancies, which is all just a load of bullsh*t. Why are we not teaching them FACTS?!? NO, they want to teach their kids that slavery was okay and that black people “liked it.” F*ck right off if you think that or ever taught that to anyone! Slavery is not good for anyone, and no enslaved person “likes it.” So again, f*ck right off!
This Executive Action is absolutely wrong and abhorrent, like everything else he’s been doing. He and certain other dictators just want all the money and all the power and a bunch of worker bees. Well, f*ck that. I didn’t go to public school my whole life to give up on it now! How do we fight this?
